Franchise Area Representative
Also known as: Area Director, Regional Representative
A franchise area representative (AR) is an entity contracted by the franchisor to provide ongoing support and field services to franchisees within a specific geographic area. Unlike a master franchisee who can sub-franchise, an AR acts as a regional operations manager conducting store visits, ensuring compliance, facilitating training, and liaising between franchisees and corporate. ARs are typically compensated through a portion of royalties (often 1-3% of gross revenue) from their territory.
Real-World Example
A QSR franchisor with 2,000 locations contracts 25 area representatives, each covering approximately 80 locations. An AR covering the Pacific Northwest receives a 2% royalty override, generating approximately $320,000 annually while providing monthly store visits and compliance audits.
