Franchise Discovery Day
Also known as: Discovery Day, Meet the Team Day, Franchise Final Interview
Franchise Discovery Day is an in-person or virtual event hosted by a franchisor for qualified prospective franchisees who are in the final stages of the evaluation process. Typically held at the franchisor's headquarters, Discovery Day allows candidates to meet the executive team, tour support facilities, observe operations, ask detailed questions, and get a feel for the company culture. For the franchisor, it serves as a final screening step — both parties are evaluating fit. Discovery Day usually occurs after the candidate has received and reviewed the FDD, completed initial financial qualification, and conducted some validation calls. Franchisors often extend franchise offers (or expect commitments) at the end of Discovery Day, creating pressure that candidates should be prepared for.
Real-World Example
A candidate for a Planet Fitness franchise attends Discovery Day at the company's Hampton, NH headquarters. They meet the VP of Franchise Operations, tour the call center and marketing department, observe a working gym, and receive a formal franchise offer for a specific territory. The franchisor gives them 72 hours to sign the agreement, creating urgency that the candidate should be financially and emotionally prepared to handle — or decline.
